Barry Hyde
I had started my journey in 2007, as Secretary to an event group, Relay For Life Rossendale, who have held their fundraising event each year for 9 years and regularly raise over £32K for Cancer Research UK. I remained with the group until 2013.
By invitation, I joined the Bacup Traders Association in 2012 again as Secretary, with a view to helping stimulate Bacup through engagement with the traders and other groups, and remained with the group until 2014.
I was invited to join the Bacup Events Group, which provided me with an opportunity to get involved with the organization of events in Bacup and I am still actively involved with this group.
I was invited to take up the position of Secretary to Rossendale Revival, an events organizing group in 2011, which is responsible for events such as Clogs Ont Cobbles and the Rawtenstall Annual Fair and remained with them until 2014.
In 2013, I founded the Rossendale 60’s Festival. The event has gone from strength to strength and I currently Chair the Festival Organising group
In 2014, I was invited to become Chair of the Rossendale Tourism and Heritage group (RTHG), which was responsible for promoting Rossendale, its attractions, activities, heritage and events. This group was superseded later that year by The Promoting Rossendale Partnership Board (PRPB),which I am a member. The Partnership’s aims are much broader than the RTHG, and aim to change perceptions of Rossendale as a place to visit, live, work or do business and develop an increasingly competitive offer, to develop a sustainable, co-ordinated communication approach so that Rossendale’s voice is clearly heard in the market, and to strengthen the visitor economy of Rossendale, presenting a unique and competitive package within the visitor market.
After the formation of the PRPB, I was invited to Chair the Tourism Communications Group in 2014, which is a sub group that falls under the PRPB, andis responsible for actively communicating information relating to activities, attractions and events through a range of media including the Visit Rossendale Web site and the social media network.
I am a member of the Bacup THI Partnership Board and took over the Chair of Bacup THI Engagement and Communications group in 2014, which develops and advises the main THI Partnership board on issues relating to Bacup community initiatives and engagement.
I have developed and maintain a number of blog sites and Facebook pages, all having specific roles in promoting the many aspects of Rossendale’s tourism offer, and write a regular column in the Rossendale Free Press under the title of ‘Rossendale Revealed’. I am also a member of the Bacup Neighborhood Forum and a former member of the Rawtenstall Town Team.
I am a member of the VIC Choir, and have recently agreed to take on the role of Promotions and Bookings Coordinator, and have recently been invited to join the Board of Trustees, which I have accepted.
In being involved with the above groups, my aim is to encourage communication and cooperation between groups to affect the best solutions in the development and promotion of Rossendale and its community.
