The next stage of the DIG for VIC project at the VIC Centre was to continue and to increase in size and scope for a social enterprise project at an allotment. We took over an allotment on Holcombe Road, Helmshore just before Xmas. There is a lot of work to do and volunteers are needed to help out.
On Monday 11th January we had the students on the Military Preparation Programme from Accrington College at the centre as part of their Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Unfortunately there weren't able to carry on the tidy up on the war graves at Stonefold cemetery due the heavy rains over Xmas so they came into the VIC Centre. Some of them worked on some art work, the back garden was cleared of weeds and dead flowers and three students have started to add the names of WW1 soldiers buried at Bacup onto the website.
We had our first walk on the 7th January, it was only a short walk around the Reservoir on Grain Road in Haslingden. It was a bit damp after the heavy rains over the Xmas period but still enjoyable.
